The legal proceedings involving Purcellville Town Manager Kwasi Fraser and Vice Mayor Carl “Ben” Nett continue to face delays, with the trial date still undetermined. Initially scheduled for a review hearing on September 4, the court date was postponed to September 25 and is now set for November 20 at 1 p.m.

At today’s court hearing, Special Prosecutor Eric Olsen of Stafford County disclosed that the grand jury transcripts detailing the indictments against Nett and Fraser are still incomplete. The defense teams received the initial wave of transcripts today, which are crucial for them to effectively counter Olsen’s proposed motion to consolidate the cases.

The case stems from a July 23 grand jury indictment accusing Vice Mayor Nett of computer trespassing, specifically misusing his position to access sensitive information on political opponents and others via the Virginia Criminal Information Network in 2024. Allegations also include conspiracy related to bid-rigging and fraudulent activities in Purcellville from January 1 to May 31, with similar charges against Fraser for the same timeframe. These charges are Class 6 felonies, carrying possible penalties of one to five years in prison or fines up to $2,500 if convicted.

Both defendants’ legal teams are pushing for a joint hearing. The background of the case includes Fraser’s public support for Nett during the 2024 elections, with Nett subsequently voting to appoint Fraser as the town manager on January 8, 2024.
