PURCELLVILLE, Va. (October 29, 2025) – The Town of Purcellville has issued a Boil Water Advisory following a water main break in the town’s drinking water system. Residents and businesses are advised to boil their drinking water until further notice. Ignoring this advisory could result in stomach or intestinal illnesses.

During this period, residents should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, food and beverage preparation, and making ice. To ensure safety, tap water should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute, then cooled before use. Boiling is the most reliable method to eliminate bacteria and other organisms.

For those unable to boil water due to lack of gas or electricity, liquid household bleach can be used as an alternative disinfectant. Ensure the bleach is newly purchased, without additives or scents, and contains at least 5.25% hypochlorite. Add eight drops of bleach (approximately ¼ teaspoon) per gallon of water, stir, and let it stand for at least 30 minutes before use. Water purification tablets can also be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Stay tuned to Purcellville News for updates on when the Boil Water Advisory will be lifted.
