In response to significantly worsening drought conditions, the Town of Purcellville has announced the implementation of mandatory water restrictions effective immediately. The U.S. Drought Monitor reports that local conditions have escalated from Moderate Drought to Severe Drought, prompting the need for urgent conservation measures across the community.
All residents and businesses within the Town of Purcellville are required to actively conserve water to combat this critical situation. The Town has emphasized that noncompliance may result in penalties as outlined in Town Code Article IV regarding Drought Response and Contingency Ordinance.
The specific restrictions now in place include the following:
– Water will only be served in restaurants, cafeterias, and other food establishments upon a patron’s request.
– The use of outdoor fountains or decorative water structures is strictly prohibited.
– Activities such as watering lawns, washing vehicles, and cleaning outdoor surfaces are not allowed.
– Fire hydrants may only be used for health and public safety purposes.
Penalties for violations of these regulations begin at a fine of $100 for the first offense, increasing to $200 for the second, and reaching $300 for the third offense.
