PURCELLVILLE, Va., March 6, 2025 — The Purcellville Police Department is celebrating a significant milestone with the announcement of its fifth accreditation award from the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC). This prestigious recognition was unanimously confirmed this morning during a meeting in Martinsville, Virginia, highlighting the department’s commitment to excellence in law enforcement.
The reaccreditation process for the Purcellville Police Department took place from January 13 to 16, 2025, when a team of three assessors conducted an onsite evaluation of the agency. The assessors meticulously reviewed the department’s policies and procedures to ensure compliance with 192 standards that cover a wide array of law enforcement practices. These standards include essential areas such as administration, operations and patrol, property and evidence management, criminal investigations, personnel management, budgeting, and training.
The assessment also included an inspection of the department’s facilities, a static display of patrol vehicles and the bicycle unit, as well as a comprehensive audit of property and evidence. Additionally, assessors engaged in ride-along experiences and conducted interviews with department personnel to gain a deeper understanding of the agency’s operations.
The Purcellville Police Department was first accredited in 2009 and has successfully achieved reaccreditation in 2013, 2017, and 2021. Maintaining accreditation requires the department to adhere to rigorous standards, submit an annual verification report of compliance, and pass an onsite assessment every four years. This ongoing process ensures that the department aligns with the best professional practices in law enforcement, further reinforcing its dedication to public safety.
Interim Chief Sara Lombraña expressed pride in the department’s achievement, stating, “VLEPSC accreditation symbolizes the Purcellville Police Department’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, excellence, and integrity in all aspects of public safety. Accreditation is not only important to our community to ensure professional police service, but it also strengthens our agency’s accountability both internally and externally. I am very proud of all the hard work put forth by our members to achieve this coveted status, and we are committed to ensuring ongoing compliance with the professional standards set forth by VLEPSC.”
This latest recognition highlights the Purcellville Police Department’s dedication to serving the community with integrity and professionalism. Residents can take comfort in knowing that their police department is committed to maintaining the highest standards in law enforcement and public service.
