At the recent Town Council meeting on Tuesday, July 8th, the Purcellville Police Department celebrated two of its finest, Lieutenant Mike Holman and Officer Larry Michelli, as they were honored with the 2025 Officers of the Year Awards. This accolade, a peer-selected recognition, highlights their exemplary service and dedication to the Purcellville community.

Officer Larry Michelli, who joined the Purcellville Police Department in December 2022, has quickly established himself as a vital asset to the force. A graduate of the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy, Officer Michelli has become a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician and completed his Field Training Officer (FTO) training. He plays a crucial role in mentoring newly hired officers, ensuring they are well-prepared for solo patrol. His dedication was recognized earlier this year when he received the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Law Enforcement Public Servant Citation for his outstanding performance and commitment to his duties.

Lieutenant Mike Holman, who joined the department in April 2024, has made a significant impact in a short time. With nearly twenty-two years of law enforcement experience, Lieutenant Holman brings a wealth of expertise from his time with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, and Strasburg Police Department. A certified Bicycle Patrol Officer and Field Training Instructor, he also has specialized skills in crash reconstruction, internal affairs, and underwater search and recovery. His leadership credentials are further bolstered by his graduation from the Virginia Police Chief’s Foundation Professional Executive Leadership School.

Both officers are celebrated for their high level of service, positive attitudes, and unwavering commitment to the Purcellville community. Whether participating in community events like the PPD & BetterALife Homework Club and Coffee with a Cop, or assisting local businesses, their contributions go beyond the call of duty.

The Purcellville Police Department takes immense pride in recognizing Lieutenant Holman and Officer Michelli as the 2025 Officers of the Year. Their professionalism and dedication serve as an inspiration to their peers and a testament to the department’s commitment to excellence.

Please join us in congratulating these outstanding officers on their well-deserved recognition!
