Purcellville, VA – In a case that has drawn significant local interest, Vice Mayor Ben Nett and Town Manager Kwasi Fraser appeared in court today, though trial dates for the charges they face remain unset. The court has scheduled a review of the case for September 4th, during which key motions are expected to be discussed.

Mr. Nett and Mr. Fraser were arrested on July 23 following a grand jury’s decision to issue six indictments against Mr. Nett and two against Mr. Fraser. These legal proceedings have prompted substantial activity and public attention.

In today’s court session, Charles King, representing Mr. Fraser, made several requests, including the release of a sealed transcript crucial for case preparation. He also filed a motion for Judge Fleming’s recusal and stressed the need for discovery materials to ensure an adequate defense.

Meanwhile, Ryan Campbell, the attorney for Mr. Nett, requested the unsealing of certain documents. This request will be evaluated by Commonwealth Attorney Eric Olsen prior to the next court date.

In a related request, Mr. King sought the release of Mr. Fraser’s bond to allow him to visit his ailing father in New York. Eric Olsen, representing the Commonwealth, showed openness to arranging specific times for this visit, indicating a collaborative approach to the matter.

Both defense attorneys have also called for the application of the “FOR JOINDER” rule, which would consolidate related legal matters to streamline the judicial process.

As the community watches closely, the upcoming September 4th hearing is expected to address these motions and provide further clarity on the path forward for these legal proceedings.
