The Purcellville Business Association (PBA) is accepting applications for the Steve Varmecky Scholarship for the 2025 academic year. This scholarship, valued at $2,000, is intended to support local high school students pursuing education in business and marketing. Eligible candidates include graduating seniors from Loudoun Valley High School (LVHS) and Woodgrove High School (WHS), as well as students who are home-schooled or attending private schools in those areas.
To qualify for the Steve Varmecky Scholarship, applicants must have completed courses in specific Marketing or Business Education classes during their high school years. The eligible classes include:
– Introduction to Business & Marketing
– Marketing
– Sports, Entertainment, & Recreation Marketing
– Advanced Marketing
– Leadership
– Accounting
– Business Law
– Business Management
– Computer Information Systems
– Cyber Security
In addition to the coursework, students must plan to continue their education in a business-related field.
Interested students are required to submit a comprehensive application packet, which includes:
1. A resume detailing honors, awards, extracurricular activities, and community involvement.
2. A high school transcript.
3. A letter of recommendation.
4. A cover letter addressed to the PBA that outlines the student’s career goals, planned course of study, and prospective schools. The cover letter should also mention any special circumstances or financial need related to the scholarship.
The scholarship funds will be deposited with the school the student plans to attend. The awarded amount can be used for tuition, books, and other school-related expenses. If a student does not enroll in school within one year of receiving the scholarship, the funds will be returned to the PBA.
Students are encouraged to submit their applications by the deadline of May 1, 2025.
The recipients of the Steve Varmecky Scholarship will be announced during the Spring Community Awards Ceremony. The PBA has offered this scholarship since 1986 to encourage and support aspiring business leaders in the Purcellville community.
