The town is currently undergoing critical repairs on a major watermain, which supplies a primary source of water to the community. This essential work is anticipated to continue until Friday, October 31, as local authorities and the Virginia Department of Health are diligently ensuring all safety and compliance measures are followed.

Due to the ongoing repairs, a boil water advisory remains in effect. Residents are urged to heed this advisory to prevent potential stomach or intestinal illnesses. The advisory strongly recommends using boiled or bottled water for drinking, beverage and food preparation, and making ice until further notice.

Why Boil Your Water?

Boiling water is a crucial step in ensuring it is safe for consumption. The process effectively kills bacteria and other harmful organisms present in the water. To properly boil water, residents should:

1. Bring all tap water to a rolling boil.

2. Let it boil for at least one minute.

3. Allow it to cool before use.

For those unable to boil water due to lack of gas or electricity, there is an alternative method involving liquid household bleach. Ensure the bleach is recently purchased, unscented, and contains a hypochlorite solution of at least 5.25%. Public health officials recommend adding eight drops (approximately 1/4 teaspoon) of bleach to each gallon of water. Mix the solution, and let it stand for a minimum of 30 minutes before use. Water purification tablets are also a viable option; please follow the manufacturer’s instructions for effective use.

Assurances and Next Steps

As repairs continue, residents can be assured that the water will undergo comprehensive testing to confirm its safety before the boil water advisory is officially lifted. The community will be promptly notified once the advisory ends.
