The Purcellville Police Department will swear in Sara Lombraña as Chief of Police during a public ceremony on Wednesday, May 27, at 6 p.m. in the Town of Purcellville Council Chambers at 221 South Nursery Avenue.
Lombraña has led the department as Interim Chief of Police since February 2025, having joined the department as Deputy Chief in September 2024. She brings more than 15 years of law enforcement experience along with four years of military service in the United States Army.
After leaving the Army, Lombraña began her public safety career with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. She later became a certified police officer with the Fredericksburg Police Department before joining the Colonial Beach Police Department, where she advanced from patrol officer to Deputy Chief.
Lombraña holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mary Washington and is a graduate of the Virginia Department of Forensic Science Academy. She has completed the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Certified Law Enforcement Command Executive Officer program and the Professional Executive Leadership School, and she has earned the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Award.
She also serves on the board of the Virginia Homicide Investigators Association and is a member of both the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy Executive Committee and the Mid-Atlantic Association of Women in Law Enforcement.
