Loudoun County will host a design public hearing later this month on the planned Franklin Park to Purcellville Trail, giving residents a chance to review the proposed design and weigh in before the project moves forward.

The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Woodgrove High School, 36811 Allder School Road in Purcellville. County staff will present an update on the project, including proposed design elements, and attendees will be able to offer comments.

The trail is intended to provide pedestrian and bicycle access from the Franklin Park recreational facilities to the existing sidewalk at the intersection of North 28th and Main streets in downtown Purcellville. County officials say the connection will improve access and safety for pedestrians, cyclists and other non-motorized users.

Hearing materials, including the public advertisement and an online comment form, are posted at loudoun.gov/FranklinParkTrail. Comments will be accepted during the meeting and through the online form until July 15. The county said comments will be forwarded to the design project team and the Board of Supervisors.

Funding for the project comes from a combination of Loudoun County local tax dollars and state revenue sharing through Virginia’s Smart Scale program (State Project: 0007-053-274; UPC: 122977). The program is administered by the Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment, which works with the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.
