The Purcellville Town Council has adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Real Property tax rate, set at $0.212 per $100 of assessed value, along with an additional $0.03 for Fireman’s Field. This decision was made during the council’s meeting on March 24th.
The Council noted that a one-cent change in the tax rate equates to an annual cost impact of $63.78 for the average homeowner. In the previous year, Council Member Khalili made a motion for a reduced tax rate of $0.192 for the FY 2026 budget, which contrasted with the proposed rate of $0.205 by Interim Town Manager Kwasi Fraser just days before the vote.
Typically, the Council decides on the Real Property Tax Rate after receiving a financial overview or budget proposal from the Town Manager. This overview summarizes the budget’s revenue requirements and supports the justification for the planned tax rate. However, the budget presentation originally scheduled for March 18th, where Town Manager Tony Sabio was to present his budget, was canceled and has been rescheduled for March 25th.
Because of the deadlines set by Loudoun County for mailing tax notices, the council’s vote on March 24th was necessary to ensure that the town complies with these requirements.
