PURCELLVILLE, Va. — A Loudoun County jury on Monday declined to remove Purcellville Vice Mayor Carl “Ben” Nett from office, concluding a multi-day civil recall trial in Loudoun County Circuit Court.

The verdict allows Nett to remain on the Purcellville Town Council. Jurors found Nett violated policy and procedures as well as the Conflict of Interest Act, but determined those findings did not justify removing him from office.

The recall petition was filed in April 2025 by a group of residents identifying themselves as the Qualified Voters of Purcellville.

Visiting Judge Randy I. Bellows presided over the trial, which began April 20. Special Prosecutor Eric L. Olsen represented the petitioners, while Jennifer McGovern represented Nett.

Nett also faces separate criminal charges, including bid-rigging and conspiracy, with trials currently scheduled for October and December.

This is a developing story.
